Which HDTV Should I Go For LDC, Plasma, LED Or 3D?

Which HDTV Should I Go For LDC, Plasma, LED Or 3D
Which HDTV Should I Go For LDC, Plasma, LED Or 3D
With so many HDTV options nowadays it is easy to get confused and end up making the wrong choice or one that doesn't stand up to your expectations.

First of all we need to understand the basics of each HDTV type. Today we have 4 types of HDTVs and they are: LCD, Plasma, LED and 3D, there is a fifth type which is OLED but the technology is in its infancy and you can only find OLED TV sets as big as 19 inches.

LCD High Def TV Sets:

Liquid Crystal Display Televisions (LCD TV) were first introduced by Sharp in 1998, but the liquid crystal display technology has been around since the 80's when it was mainly used in portable computers.

LCD TVs offer bright crystal clear images, super colour-filled pictures but not so good contrast ratio when compared to Plasma. Over the years LCD TV manufacturers have made great improvements on LCD TV's contract ratio but Plasma still lead the way in this category.

Colour accuracy of LCD TV sets are influenced by room light. LCD TVs perform better in brighter rooms due to anti glare technology and brightness. Another factor to consider is viewing angles, on average LCD HDTVs has around 120 degree viewing angles but they still have a long way to go before catching plasma.

On average these TV sets have an autonomy of 100,000 working hours which is about 50 years of use if they are turned on for 5 hours a day.

Plasma High Def TV Sets:

Plasma technology consists of hundreds of thousands of individual pixel cells. Each pixel cell is an individual microscopic light bulb that has a mixture of noble gases and a tiny amount of mercury. When these cells receive electric pulses the gases and mercury form plasma that produces light, illuminating the exact balance of red, green and blue phosphors of each cell which in turn will display the proper colour sequence from the light.

Plasma TVs have the best contrast ratio between all HDTVs, on average the latest Plasma HDVT sets have a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Contrast ratio is a measure of the blackest black compared to the withest white. Plasma TVs can achieve outstanding black levels thanks to internal algorithms that block the power to particular pixels to render a darker pixel. The down side here is that this limits Plasma televisions gray scaling.

Plasma displays can reproduce as much as 16.77 million colours because as afore mentioned each pixel has red, green and blue elements needed to produce every colour in the spectrum. In short, Plasma TVs have the best colour accuracy of all HDTVs.

Another point in favour of Plasma TVs is viewing angles. Plasma manufacturers have nearly achieved perfection with viewing angles nearing the 180 degree mark. Also worth baring in mind that Plasma TVs are more suitable for darker rooms.

LED TVs

LED TVs are the new form of LCD TVs. These TV sets can produce images with greater dynamic contrast with a wider colour gamut and lower power consumption of at least 20-30% when compared to traditional LCD TVs.

LED backlighting allows these TV sets to be extremely thin, most models are approximately one inch think.

Many industry expert don't agree to label LED TVs as unique HDTV category because as afore mentioned LED TVs are simply LDC TVs with LED lights for back lighting instead of fluorescent CFL lighting.

LED TVs presented a solution to the low contrast levels found on traditional LCD TVs. By dimming the back light in areas where the screen should be dark it increases the black levels, consequently increase the contract ratio.

Colour accuracy is very similar to LCD TVs but LED TV has an advantage in displaying more realistic colours. Just like on LCD, LED TVs have very poor viewing angles.

3D Ready TV Sets

The latest on high definition TV, all major manufacturers are producing it with highlights to Sony and Samsung, which in my opinion are manufacturing the best 3D TV sets at the moment.

3D video technology has been around for ages but only now the technology has finally reached our homes. 3D TV sets are Full HD and have resolution of 1920X1080p, a refresh rate of 600Hz and usually support HDMI 1.4 or higher.

Now that you know everything there is to know about the HDTVs you are ready to out buy one that will suit your viewing needs.

The Best Guide To LED TV Technology

LED TV Technology
LED TV Technology
When buying LED TVs there can be a overwhelming number of options to weigh before making a purchase. For starters, simply deciding to choose an LED TV over a Plasma TV or LCD TV is enough to give you a headache. This guide will try to hit the main topics and information to consider before choosing whether or not an LED TV is best for you and what to look out for.

To begin with, we're going to go over what an LED display actually is. In reality the screen of an LED TV is the same as LCD TVs. The difference between the two lies in back lighting of the screens. Traditional LCD displays use a fluorescent light to backlight the display and create contrast and brightness. LED televisions use a light-emitting diode (LED) in place of the fluorescent light, this tends to create a wider and deeper range of colors, blacks and smoother brightness than LCD TVs.

Even inside of the category of LED televisions there are options to consider. There are 2 main types of LED displays (RGB dynamic LED and Edge-LED). Each one is suited for different viewing and cost needs. Right now we're going to try and talk about the pros and cons of each type.

RGB dynamic TVs use a series of 3 LEDs, red green and blue. Varying the projection of each diode creates different temperatures of white. These are positioned in different areas of the TV to retain the original colors of the display and to be able to create higher contrast and truer blacks in different areas of the screen. The drawback to this type is that you have a loss in detail on small bright objects in large areas of darkness.

Edge - LEDs use a special array of LEDs to diffuse light across the screen in a uniform brightness distribution. This creates a dramatically thinner and lighter TV than RGB LEDs. It also consumes far less electricity than it's LCD counterpart. The downside is that there can be frame heating issues and uniformity in brightness, but these are mostly hard to notice to the untrained eye.

Overall, LED televisions offer much richer picture quality than that of traditional LCD TVs and mostly on par if not better than Plasma TVs. Not using a fluorescent light creates a more vivid image on screen and much deeper and richer dark areas that are more controlled.

Another thing to consider is the impact on the environment. LED TVs don't use mercury during their manufacturing, and produce less amounts of carbon dioxide. This along with the lower energy usage compared to LCD leads people to consider it a more environmentally conscious choice.

The most dramatic thing to consider when buying an LED TV is the cost. LCD TVs are far cheaper when you compare the same size TVs of each. The difference between the two displays, for some, simply cannot warrant the price increase. If you have the money for an LED then it's definitely the recommended option.

VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV Review

VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV Review
VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV Review

VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV is excellent Smart TV in America. Introducing the new E-series slim frame design. The VIZIO E420i-A0 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz Smart LED HDTV is shattering the mold in a way only VIZIO can, with high-quality design and picture at the best value. Enjoy crystal-clear action and eye-popping images in 1080p Full HD and 120Hz effective refresh rate. A stunningly slim outer frame lets you enjoy TV with a narrower border around the picture for a more immersive experience. VIZIO Internet Apps with built-in Wi-Fi gives you instant access to a world of streaming movies, TV shows, music, and more -all with the push of a button on the smart remote. The VIZIO E-Series 42-Inch Class LED Smart TV gives you more of what you love about TV with all the brilliant picture quality and world-class service you’d expect from America’s LCD HDTV Company.

This is an incredibly well designed 42-inch Smart TV with a stunning picture, slim profile, plenty of useful apps, and absolutely low price. The only thing holding it back from being a perfect 5-star TV is the lack of a QWERTY remote to make proper use of the apps otherwise must buy separately  and having only 1 HDMI connection.

DESIGN
All black with a very slim bezel and less than 2" total depth. This thing is pretty sexy, especially for a "budget" TV. The stand will make some happy, other no so much. It's basically a fixed picture frame style where the TV itself sits directly on whatever surface you have it on. This gives it more of an all-in-one PC appearance than that of a TV. It sits at a fixed angle that I didn't care for at first, but it's actually the perfect angle for sitting on a kitchen counter, which is where I have it. At any rate, I like the design as does my fiancee. It looks much more high-end than its price would indicate. At less than 8 lbs and with a VESA 100 mounting pattern, you could easily and inexpensively mount this pretty much anywhere.

SET UP
Setting up the TV itself took about 5 minutes. Unboxed it, plugged it into the wall and cable box, turned it on and set up the WiFi. Everything worked perfectly. The picture calibration out of the box on "normal" was one of the most accurate default picture representations I've ever seen. I've been seeing this comment a lot with Vizio's new E-series line. This is rare, as I usually spend between 15 and 30 minutes tweaking the picture settings. About 2 minutes with this one and I was happy. Logging into the apps was more challenging than it should have been because VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV inexplicably doesn't include their nifty little QWERTY remote with this set. More on that in the Apps section below. All-in-all...pretty easy to set up. The lack of a 2nd HDMI port bothers me a bit. It's 2013 and everything connects via HDMI. Add a 2nd port, Vizio.

PICTURE
Having previously owned the 43 inch Samsung Plasma, I can definitely say the blacks are nicer on the Samsung, but that's be supposed to be a strength for a plasma TV. Being an LED, this VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV has more than adequate blacks in its display of HD and even standard channels. The overall display of standard channels on this VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV have a decent looking picture. HD movies are true 1080p and beautiful. The picture on this TV is stunning with vibrant colors and deeper blacks than I expected from an edge lit LED setup. The slim bezel really helps the picture pop and, as I noted above, the default picture settings are very accurate. There are several picture mode presets, including an eye-popping "vibrant" setting for those preferring boosted color saturation. I've never seen a TV of this size at any price point with a better picture.

SOUND
This set has stereo 2W front-firing speakers built-in which can be set to mono, stereo, or a simulated surround setting. If you're going to be gaming or watching movies on this set, you'll want a sound bar or a decent 2.1/3.1 setup, for everyone else these built-in speakers will suffice. I think the sound quality of this TV is adequate, not awesome, but adequate. If you're wanting an impressive home theater experience from an audio standpoint then I think a sound bar or a surround sound system would be the way to go here. When set on the simulated surround mode the sound stage is surprisingly wide to the point where it will occasionally bounce a sound so that is seems to be coming from behind you. It's nothing earth-shattering and there is no real bass, as expected, but as far as built-in TV speakers, they do a pretty good job. For my kitchen use of this TV, they're perfectly serviceable.

APPS
I have been waiting for this TV specifically because it's a 42" 1080p LED Smart TV. It is currently the only 42" Smart TV on the market. The apps available are most of the ones you would hope for; Netflix, Amazon video, Vudu, Hulu Plus, Rhapsody, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Notably missing is HBO Go and MLB.tv, neither of which are currently available on any Vizio TV. The apps that are available respond quickly, and most can run while the current program is playing (you can tweet while watching the game, for example). With all of these great apps, I was absolutely floored that Vizio chose not to include it's QWERTY remote with this TV. It's a puzzlingly stupid decision as the lack of this QWERTY remote makes using the apps unnecessarily difficult. Once you're logged in to all of your apps, basic searching is OK, as the included remote is functional and responsive, but the lack of the QWERTY keyboard on the back makes using Facebook and Twitter highly unlikely, which is a shame because otherwise they are solid apps.

Functionality
The TV, out of the box takes about 15 minutes to set up if you're taking your time. The remote is a little small, but unless you have massive hands it shouldn't be an issue. When you go to turn on the TV it takes about 15 seconds from when you press the power button to when you see the screen display the picture. Maybe that's too long for some people, it doesn't bother me. The Wifi connection process is fast, smooth, and seamless. As far as the Smart TV features go, it's very non-invasive. Pops up at the press of the big "V" button midway up the remote and it displays the scrollable bar along the bottom of the screen with everything from Netflix & Hulu Plus to YouTube, Twitter, Skype, and Facebook.

Overall, I would say if you're looking to go bigger than the 40 inch range with a HDTV that really delivers in quality and performance without breaking the bank, then this is the TV for you!

This is an excellent no-frills smart TV. the picture is excellent and the sound is surprisingly good. While it is missing some features and has fairly limited menu options the excellent picture quality and built in apps make this well worth the low price.

After living with the TV for less than a week my main complaints are:
  • can't rename channels
  • no channel favorites
  • firmware updates seemed to wipe out most of the customization I'd done to the apps and widget dock
  • cheap remote without lighted buttons
  • Just one HDMI Connections
Pros VIZIO E420i-A0 Smart LED HDTV
  • great picture
  • decent sound (I had assumed I'd immediately need a sound bar but have decided I can wait for now)
  • built in Netflix, Amazon, etc.
  • attractive design with very thin bezel around the screen
  • large screen size for a low price

Simple Explain Of Toshiba LED Televisions

Simple Explain Of Toshiba LED Televisions
Simple Explain Of Toshiba LED Televisions

There is a common misconception surrounding LED TVs. Many people believe that these televisions are purely LED lit. This is not the case. They are a new generation of LCD televisions that use LED back-lighting. When considering if you want to purchase this type of technology there are a few things you need to think about.

LED TVs vary in the type of back-lighting they use. There are two types of back-lighting available, edge lighting and full LED lighting. Which one you go for will depend on the type of picture you want. Edge lighting places the LED lights around the outside edges of the screen. This can be a disadvantage as the picture tends to be brighter at the edge and darker at the centre. Full LED lighting places the LED lights behind the whole screen. This creates a bright picture throughout, however this technology can be more expensive.

LED TVs have a definite size advantage as they can be far slimmer than normal flat screen TVs. Edge lit LED televisions are slimmer than full LED TVs but the choice is down to you and the space you have available. When choosing an LED television consider the size of the room you want to put it in; a large screen will look better in a large room.

In these energy conscious times these televisions offer a great energy saving alternative. While they are energy efficient it's a good idea to look around and compare the energy consumptions of different models.

Lets look at an example. The Toshiba 46WL863B is a 3D LED television that also features Smart TV. This Toshiba LED TV features PRO-LED local dimming back-lighting. This means that it is both edge lit and back lit. The Toshiba 46WL863B LED TV offers consistent brightness and enhanced deep colours. As this is a 3D LED television you can enjoy stunning 3D in your own home. To do this you will need to purchase Toshiba's 3D Active shutter glasses but if you feel you won't use 3D then there is no need to.

The 46WL863B has a super slim profile and an eye-catching design. At 46 inches this screen would comfortably fit into a reasonably sized living room. This Toshiba LED TV features 4 HDMI ports, 2USB ports, PC input, Component and Composite video and Regza Link. As a Smart TV this Toshiba has wireless built in in addition to DLNA. Once connected you can access loads of online entertainment ranging from BBC iPlayer to Facebook and much more.

Now you know what to look for you should be enjoying the benefits in no time.

What is the Difference Between Plasma TV, LCD TV and LED TV? Simple Must You Know

Difference Between Plasma TV, LCD TV and LED TV
Difference Between Plasma TV, LCD TV and LED TV
Over the past decade home entertainment technology has really taken some huge leaps forward. Today, the task of buying a new TV is not just a matter of picking your favorite brand or buying the largest size you can afford. There seem to be more options than ever, and this has certainly led to a lot of confusion among consumers. With that in mind, what exactly are the main differences between the different types of TV, and which is the best all

Plasma TVs are one of the older types of flat screen. They are relatively cheap to produce meaning that prices are generally low for the screen size, which led to plasma becoming a popular choice with consumers who wanted to get the largest screen for their money. These TVs use a gas, which then turns into plasma when an electronic current is passed through it; the plasma then emits the light to create the pictures. This results in a high quality, realistic picture that doesn't suffer from motion blur. It also offers a particularly wide viewing angle.

However, plasma screens do tend to only have a lifespan of about 10-15 years and do use a relatively high amount of energy, which is now frowned upon as many consumers are trying to become more environmentally friendly. Plasma screens are also quite thick, and are very heavy for their size, so they can be awkward to move. The screen is also fairly susceptible to glare, especially in bright rooms.

LCD TVs can trace their roots back to computer monitors and were first introduced at around the same time as plasma TVs. These TVs use the same basic technology as your pocket calculator screen and are backlit with fluorescent light. They have a much longer lifespan than plasma screens, something in the region of 30+ years, and also use much less power. Traditionally LCD prices were higher than plasma, but as new manufacturing techniques have evolved the prices are now rapidly falling.

While LCD TVs are available in a wide range of sizes, they do offer the worst performance of all the flat screens though, not only do they have the lowest contrast level but they also have a slow refresh rate meaning that motion blur often occurs. The viewing angle is also much narrower than that of plasma TVs, which means that it can be difficult to find a location that offers a good view for everyone, especially in smaller rooms.

LED TVs are actually the next generation of LCD screens, as they are based on a similar technology but use LED backlighting instead of the fluorescent backlighting found in traditional LCD screens. The new backlighting technology means that they are able to deliver a much more dynamic picture quality, they also use significantly less power than even the most efficient LCD TVs. LED screens can be made to be extremely thin, so they offer consumers the ability to place the TV practically anywhere - indeed it is now commonplace to see TVs fastened to the wall in order to save floor space. You can watch this video for more know What Is difference between PlasmaTV, LCD TV And LED TV. Check it Out :

As this is still a relatively new development, LED screens do tend to be more expensive than their LCD counterparts. However as LED TVs become more widespread the cost of production is expected to drop significantly, which will be reflected through dramatically lower prices in-store. Having said that, LED technology is considered to be the most reliable of all the flat screen formats so many people don't mind paying a little bit more.

The world of home entertainment can certainly be a confusing place, especially as new advances in technology seem to come along on an almost monthly basis. Hopefully this article has shed some light on the current generation of flat screen TVs, so at least you can stand a fighting chance the next time you venture into the home entertainment section of the electronics store.

Black Friday Predictions 2012 - Samsung TVs Possible at Discounted Prices

Black Friday Predictions - 2012
Being one of the oldest Black Friday sites, we are in a better position to predict trends & popular product prices during this season.
Following are some of the trends that we foresee
Computers & Electronics that used to be major attraction during black Friday will continue to be one but it may not be as big as it used to be. We have seen shift from desktop to laptop and now we are in the phase where trend is moving towards laptops to tablets and even smartphone. In other words, people can use other devices to do what they could only do with laptops in past. As a result, we may see higher demand for tablets and smartphones on the expense of desktop and even laptops. That said, we also believe that tablets and smartphones are additional accessories so Laptop would still be required for most other task.
New edge Smartphones can easily replace GPS, MP3 Players and to some extend day-to-day Cameras or Camcorders. Since most smartphones are tied with service plans of service providers and Unlocked phones are not so popular, we may not see huge rush for the services + phone during black Friday but there exists a demand.
TVs are getting cheaper and trend it to go over larger screen and 3D TVs. We may see good prices on TVs this year. We may see good prices on Internet TVs or Smart TVs. One thing to note here is that most stores offer good TV deals during black Friday but if you are looking for high end, top brand TV, you may not find the best price during black Friday since most stores try to attract consumers by offering great prices on non-branded or lessor known branded TVs.
Fashions- We expect great prices and consumer demand for Women's apparel, shoes and accessories segment.
Home & Garden- We expect great doorbusters and nice discount in stores in this sector as competition to attract consumers in this area is intense.
Cyber Monday - This year Cyber Monday will gain ground and we expect more and more stores to come up with their Cyber Monday Sales. Bookmark our Cyber Monday site to catch hottest Cyber Monday Deals as soon as they go live.

The Technology Behind 42-Inch LED TVs

The Technology Behind 42-Inch LED TVs
The Technology Behind 42-Inch LED TVs
More buyers are now choosing LED TVs, particularly the very popular 42" LED TVs. Their picture quality rivals (some say even surpasses) the very best that plasma TVs can offer, at a more efficient level of energy consumption. A 42" LED TV is also superior to the standard LCD TV in terms of overall picture quality.

What gives a 42" LED TV an edge is, of course, the more sophisticated LED technology. "LED" refers to light emitting diodes, which provide illumination to the display and produce the picture. LEDs are better than the cold cathode fluorescent lights (CCFLs) found in standard LCD TVs, in that they deliver better, more vivid images.

In addition, some 42" LEDs have a feature called "local dimming." This means that when a picture in a scene requires it, some LEDs are turned off completely. As a result, some parts of the screen are in total darkness while others continue to be lit. This produces very dramatic, deep blacks. An LCD TV is simply incapable of this, because the fluorescent light tubes are always on, and so the blacks in a picture are never completely black.

There are two ways that the LEDs may be laid out at the back of a 42" LED. In "full-array" configuration, the LEDs are laid out behind the entire display. In the "edge-lit" configuration, the LEDs are placed only on the sides or edges of the panel. But still, even if only edge-lit, the lighting can reach all parts of the display including the middle, using what are called "light guides".

Thus, some 42" TVs may be full-array with or without local dimming, while others may be edge-lit, again with or without local dimming. The most common in the market are those that are edge-lit without local dimming, which are also the thinnest models. The ones that perform best are the full-array with local dimming type, the original type of LED TVs that came out.

Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV Review

Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV
Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV
The Sony Bravia EX700 52-Inch LED TV gives you full 1080p High Definition. With stunning contrast and smooth high motion picture performance the Sony BRAVIA EX700-Series LED HDTV is an excellent LED TV.

It gives full Internet connectivity so you can control a vast variety of movies, TV shows, videos and music using apps like Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, and many more all at the touch of a button.

So, I was over the moon to hear that my friend Dave brought one, and even more delighted when he invited me round to take a look! Dave purchased his Sony Bravia EX700 52-Inch LED TV last week, so I just had to go round and see what he was making such a fuss about The first thing that I noticed was the gorgeously beautiful picture.

The colors are rich and sharp and the blacks demonstrate immense depth and naturally the LED HD makes everything so decisive and clean.

Dave put Sony Bravia EX700 up in his Family Room and he's got a really nice home theater set to compliment his LED TV and to really bring out the best from it! His Set-up includes Pioneer Elite SC-25 receiver, LG Blu-ray, Boston Acoustics center and surround sound speakers. It really is a top-notch set up and we watched Avatar which was a truly great viewing experience. The action sequences were lucid and fresh and the colors pulsating, it was without doubt superb.

After the viewing Dave took me through his views on the pros and cons of his new Sony Bravia LED HD TV.

Clearly he's completely delighted with the picture quality and clarity. He's upgraded from a Samsung 46 Inch LCD to the Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV. Hie definitely feels the picture is better although only by a small degree. I must admit I thought the difference was more "marked" with the new Bravia picture being distinctively better - opinions, ehall

I'm not sure exactly why I felt that, but despite the screen being that much bigger the colors just seemed to shine through more and the picture was just that little bit cleaner.

Indeed, the picture from Dave's Blu-ray we're just out of this world. Most would agree that Avatar is a fine movie in any case but the Blu-ray full 1080 HD just made it a truly great view and I think that is certainly in some way due to the outstanding performance of the Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV.

There is a great jack pack with the Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch Led TV including a free wireless dongle! Dave is hardwired in, but Internet viewing was good. O.K, not as crisp as the full HD, but pretty good nonetheless.

It's also is a great looking piece of kit. The screen is surrounded by a shiny black surround that simply glistens. I'm sure it will be horrible to keep clean, nevertheless at a week old it looks great!

One slight downside is that the channel change was on the slow side. This surprised me a little as I have a Samsung and I know they have got rid of this nuisance problem. But in the overall scheme of things, it's a minor gripe.

Overall the Sony Bravia EX700 52 Inch LED TV is a great bit of kit offering a superb viewing experience and a great price to performance ratio, highly recommended and I know Dave's over the moon with his capture...And he's not easily pleased when it comes to his HD TV!

Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch LED HDTV Review

Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch LED HDTV Review
Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch LED HDTV Review
Remember the time when flat panel TVs started to take over the old bulky CRT TVsall Well the second wave of change is coming. LED HDTVs will soon take over conventional LCD and plasma HDTVs. LED HDTVs are super-thin, uses very little energy and produces superb video quality. It will be just a matter of time before they take over the HDTV market. Currently, the Samsung UN55B8000 LED HDTV series has been touted as on of the best in the market. Here is a quick look at the 55-inch model.

Design: Firstly, it must be mentioned that the Samsung UN55B8000 55-inch LED HDTV looks just stunning. This model is just 1.2-inches thick at its thickest point, giving it an amazing side profile. On the front, it has a glossy black surface that is decorated with a thin layer of transparent acrylic/plastics along its edges. It rests on a transparent stalk that connects it to a brushed-metal stand. The chic design and looks of this model is on its own a good enough of a reason for you to get one of these.

Features &  Performance: Like most high-end Samsung HDTV models, the Samsung UN55B8000 comes with Yahoo Widgets. When connected to the internet, it allows you to access a variety of online content such as streaming videos from YouTube. For connectivity, it comes with a wide array of connectors that include 4 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports on the side. The video quality on this model was as expected, nothing short of amazing. The black levels on this model matched those of some of the best plasma HDTVs in the market. The colors were accurate and watching fast action sequences was a flawless experience. Like most LED HDTVs, the 55-inch Samsung UN55B8000 is currently a little more expensive that regular HDTVs. If you can afford the hefty price tag, this LED HDTV would definitely be worth the investment!

If you after the latest in HDTV technology then this model will not let you down and it beats Sony's price by $2000. I'll just mention a few of the sweet features this TV has.

1) 1.5" thick- Yes that's right it is about the same thickness as a deck of cards! The reason for this is because this new generation uses LED's instead of LCD or Plasma so there is no need for light bulbs in this one.

2) Super COOL- The Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV not only looks cool but it actually STAYS cool. Because it doesn't use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (those are light bulbs for us simple folk) that means that it doesn't heat up at all.

3) 240 hz refresh rate- Most TV's refresh in the 60hz-120 hz range so the images get blurred more easily. With 240 hz fast motion images appear ridiculously clear.

4) Energy Efficient- The Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV is almost 40% more energy efficient than standard LCD and Plasma HDTV's. This is again due to the revolutionary LED technology that does not use light bulbs.

5) Do you like Gamesall- This TV features game mode which enhances dark areas, sharpens the picture, speeds up the image processing response. Basically it makes your games even better to play than they already are.

Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p LED HDTV Review

Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p LED HDTV Review
Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p LED HDTV Review
HDTV technology has developed in so many ways these days. Previously, the market was packed with Plasma as well as LCD HDTV. But now, another technology has emerged and it is called LED. Samsung is one of the manufacturers trying to deliver the best LED TV for their hungry market. The Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p HDTV is the manufacturer's new high definition LED television. Samsung has certainly paid a lot of attention in the design of this HDTV as it comes with a piano black finished with a crystal neck stand. This subconsciously gives the product a sense of elegance and power.

Coming with the unit is 2 remote controls. The main remote utilizes radio frequency rather than the traditional Infra-red making it almost impossible to use it with a universal remote. However, do not fret as the mini version of the remote uses the IR technology making it compatible with most universal remotes. Customers that still want to have an IR main remote can call to the Samsung Customer Service and they will give an IR remote for free.

Like most HDTV today, the Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p HDTV is a Full HDTV. This means it is possible to watch HD movies as well as using it as a computer monitor at a total resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Because this technology allows more pixels to be placed on a screen, the picture quality is a lot sharper as compared with a HD-ready television or a standard definition. The picture quality of the product is simply stunning. By utilizing the local dimming concept instead of the edge-lit, the unit is able to produce an outstanding contrast ratio of 7,000,000:1. Getting deep blacks are definitely achievable with this product and can be compared with Pioneer high-end Kuro plasma TV. In addition to that, images produced by this LED HDTV are sharp as well.

The sound quality for the product on the other hand is decent for casual watching. Although it is in compliance with SRS TruSurround HD, do not expect that the television would replace a decent home theater.

However, the 46-inch LED HDTV is not for rooms of all sizes. It may be great for a living room but definitely not recommended to have in a small room. This is because the set is rather big for these types of rooms. Therefore, for these rooms, it is recommended to go for a 32-inch set instead. The viewing experience stays the same but it has less impact on the pocket as well.

Before I forget, I need to remind you that you can also place Yahoo! Widgets on this UN46B8500, because this HDTV sports the Medi@2.0 Internet@TV. However, there are claims that the program takes a while to load. One more thing to consider about this HDTV, you can play HD clips from YouTube, while HD TiVo doesn't have this unique feature. The Samsung UN46B8500 46-Inch 1080p HDTV is worth to consider LED HDTV to buy. It offers premium quality experience at a decent price. However, do bear in mind that most LED HDTVs are costlier as compared with their LCD counterparts. Unless the budget allows, having an LCD instead of an LED might not seem like a bad option as well.
